Rocky Valley Storage

Rocky Valley Storage Lake is one of two stunning alpine lakes near Falls Creek ski resort. Perfect for both summer and winter excursions!

Alpine zones boast high recharge potential but their groundwater storage is often neglected. This is surprising, since a high alpine groundwater storage can reliably regulate catchment outflow over several months.

Boating

Floating and fishing are popular pastimes on this lake. A variety of boat types can be rented on-site; fishing occurs year round – during summer months anglers fish for rainbow trout 8-15 inches in size (and occasionally larger). Other fish species that can be caught include kokanee and mackinaw which can be caught using lures or bait. In addition, DFG plants a significant number of rainbows into the lake every year.

Lake Alpine is part of an interlinked reservoir system providing drinking water and hydroelectricity to nearby Spicer, Utica and Union reservoirs.

Lake water remains cool throughout much of summer, making lakes ideal places for swimming, paddle boarding and kayaking activities. To protect children in mountain waters from drowning accidents, they must wear life jackets at all times and be closely supervised at all times.

Lake Pocahontas boasts an aesthetically pleasing foreshore area with grassy banks and picnic spots, along with boat launch areas at both dam walls. A maximum speed limit of 10mph applies across both lakes; overnight mooring is not permitted and they close at night.

Fishing on Lake Mount Beauty is popular throughout summer months, while winter conditions often limit catches due to cooler water temperatures and lack of nutrients in these high alpine lakes. Most fish found here tend to be small due to low nutrient levels and rocky granitic bottoms; however trout are predatory feeders in winter; feeding off other trout is sometimes necessary if necessary! Mount Beauty Hardware & Drapery on Hollonds Street and Rocky Valley Bikes & Snowsports in town stock an assortment of fishing gear while there is also a pond near the lake that contains small brown trout up to 1.4 kg!

Fishing

Rocky Valley Reservoir is an exceptional alpine lake known for its world-class trout fishing. Stocked with both brown and rainbow trout species, though they tend to freeze over in winter.

Lake Ontario is a catch-and-release fishery, with a bag limit of five trout per person per year. Due to its small size and steep hills surrounding it, floating lines or long rods with weighted flies work best; most anglers opt for three flies that include Mrs Simpson flies such as Dunkeld or Fuzzy Wuzzy as points and an attractor fly on dropper as top flies; with an attractor fly such as Fuzzy Wuzzy for added drama on dropper line dropper flys.
